January 5th was National Bird Day. Started ten years ago by animal advocates aiming to nurture an appreciation and respect for birds, National Bird Day also builds awareness about the many ways in which these beautiful animals are exploited and abused in the pet and exotic animal trades. However, many might not know that birds are also used extensively in research.

Animalearn Names Humane Parent of the Year

Animalearn is pleased to announce that the recipient of its 2011 Humane Parent of the Year Award is Anne Graff, a dedicated mother and animal advocate living in Lexington, Kentucky. Graff was selected this year because of her work to educate district officials and teachers about dissection alternatives and her dedication to help incorporate them into the curriculum at Henry Clay High School.
