Shrinking School Budgets Need Not Impact Quality Life Science Education
As the U.S. economy faces a difficult time, many school budgets are feeling the crunch. The nation’s public school systems, financed by taxpayers, have to make difficult decisions when it comes to allocating increasingly limited resources. As teachers work hard to engage students in science while dealing with shrinking science budgets, Animalearn’s free loan program, The Science Bank, can help K-12 administrators and educators provide students with the most innovative life science education tools to aid in critical science skill acquisition, all at no cost to schools and taxpayers. The Science Bank has over 450 humane life science teaching tools, including CD-ROMs, DVDs, and realistic models, all available free of charge, and in multiple quantities for entire classrooms, to teachers and students. When borrowing humane life science products through this loan program, schools need not spend exorbitant amounts of money buying expensive animal cadavers to teach life science skills, saving thousands of dollars annually.
In many peer reviewed journal articles, animal dissection has been proven to be less effective than humane life science alternatives. Additionally, students report high levels of enjoyment and interest in using alternatives. The Science Bank is a valuable resource that helps ensure that the quality of science education need not be negatively impacted by limited science budgets.
Animalearn, the education division of the American Anti-Vivisection Society, is dedicated to assisting educators and students in finding non-animal methods to teach and study science. Towards that objective, Animalearn created The Science Bank, a comprehensive lending program of over 300 CD-ROMS, realistic models, and many more humane products that enable educators to teach and students to learn anatomy, physiology, and psychology lessons without harming animals. Compassionate students and educators can access this program online at www.Animalearn.org or call (800)729-2287.
