The FDA is moving to allow food from cloned animals and their offspring to be sold to the public without labels. Please write to the FDA and let them know your concerns about animal cloning. The FDA should not approve cloning when it is clearly an experimental technology that seriously jeopardizes animal welfare, raises significant ethical questions that have yet to be addressed, and presents no benefits for consumers.

We have provided you with a sample letter below that you can submit electronically, or that you can print and mail to the FDA (after signing and printing your name). Comments should reference docket number 2003N-0573. While every comment the FDA receives is helpful, it is even more effective if you can personalize your letter. Thank you for your support!

Dear Commissioner Von Eschenbach,

I would like to take this opportunity to comment on the FDA's Draft Animal Cloning Risk Assessment (Docket # 2003N-0573). I am highly concerned about the serious health problems that plague cloned animals. Based on the overwhelming scientific evidence showing that the animals involved in the cloning process suffer from highly alarming rates of health problems, defects, and premature death, far more so than conventionally bred animals, the FDA should recommend in its risk management plan that an advisory committee be established to allow for the public discussion of these issues. With such significant animal welfare concerns and ethical questions raised by cloning, I do not think that cloned animal products should be allowed in grocery stores.

If cloned foods are sold to the public, they must be clearly labeled because I do not want to support a practice that is as cruel, unethical, and unnecessary as cloning. I also think that too little is known about the long-term effects of cloning, and labels are necessary for tracking any problems that may arise.

Cloning is an experimental technology that causes severe animal suffering and is opposed by most consumers. Please reconsider your recommendations and keep food from cloned animals and their offspring off of our grocery store shelves.
